Birth of an Anthem

At G7, we pride ourselves on recognizing the right talent for the right audience. And when soccer’s governing body from Concacaf shared with us they were looking for an international sounding theme song for their Women’s Gold Cup tournament, we knew Alexis Gomez had the right sound, image, and Latin roots to create music magic for Concacaf. G7 organized time for Gomez, who is bilingual, to sing for Concacaf execs during one of their team dinners where Alexis shined bright and was invited to submit Gold Cup theme songs.

Within three weeks Gomez penned the anthemic “Vamos” that G7 executive produced, navigating recordings in Nashville and mixing in Bogota, Columbia. The aim was to infuse the song with a contemporary Latin pop sound that would resonate with the Gold Cup’s predominantly Spanish speaking audience, while providing TV broadcast editors a powerful musical canvas for game promos, intros, and outros.

Concacaf was blown away by “Vamos” and chose Gomez’ track as the official theme song for their Gold Cup tournament. Record label titan Universal Music Group was also impressed as they licensed the song, added a few of their artists to the master, created a music video, and distributed the track internationally.

At G7, we use every tool in our arsenal to help brands and properties custom create original songs or re-imagine existing tracks that will resonate with their audiences. In the case of Concacaf, we identified an amazing artist for the assignment and worked with all stakeholders to produce, package, license, and sync the music for Concacaf’s tournament. As a crescendo moment for Gomez and her song “Vamos,” Concacaf invited Gomez to perform the song live before the tournament’s U.S.A vs Brazil championship match that was broadcast to over 100 million people.
